The National Resistance Movement (NRM) has officially endorsed President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni as its presidential flagbearer for the 2026 general elections.

The endorsement was made at Kololo Independence Grounds during the opening session of the NRM National Delegates’ Conference, where delegates unanimously backed Museveni’s candidacy. In a parallel sitting at Namboole Stadium, the conference also reaffirmed him as the party’s national chairman.

The gathering further endorsed Al Hajji Moses Kigongo as the party’s first vice-chairperson, solidifying the NRM’s top leadership structure ahead of the polls.

President Museveni, accompanied by First Lady Janet Kataaha Museveni, graced the event at Kololo. With the endorsement, he now stands as the NRM’s official presidential candidate, pending formal nomination by the Electoral Commission. Museveni is expected to address delegates during the ongoing conference.

The National Delegates’ Conference is also set to confirm other leaders within the Central Executive Committee (CEC), the highest decision-making organ of the NRM, as the party strengthens its structures in preparation for the 2026 elections.

This endorsement signals continuity at the helm of the ruling party, reflecting its resolve to maintain cohesion and leadership stability as Uganda heads toward the polls.
