Prof. Kateregga Regains Access To Buziga Residence After Court Ruling

Kampala, Uganda – Kampala University founder and businessman Prof. Badru Dungu Kateregga has regained access to his Buziga residence following a ruling in a long-running legal dispute with his estranged wife, Jolly Shubaiha Irankunda.

Grade One Magistrate Arinaitwe Elisha of the Makindye Court on Monday dismissed Irankunda’s application seeking to bar Prof. Kateregga from entering the property. The magistrate ruled that matrimonial property rights can only be determined through divorce, judicial separation, or annulment of marriage — and therefore there was no legal basis to restrict Kateregga from accessing his home, which he said was built with his personal funds.

The couple, married for over a decade and parents to three children, has been locked in a highly publicized dispute. Prof. Kateregga accused Irankunda of physical abuse and of forcefully locking him out of the residence since September 2024, allegedly with the support of police and private security. Irankunda denied the allegations, insisting the property had remained secure.

The ruling offers Prof. Kateregga temporary relief by granting him access to his residence, though the wider legal and marital disputes remain unresolved. Further proceedings are expected in the coming months.
