Museveni: Corrupt NRM Leaders Will Face Action

President Museveni has warned the newly elected NRM leaders against corruption, or else they will annoy Uganda.

“This(NRM members) is more than 80% of the voters of Uganda. Don’t annoy them with wrong actions

Don’t annoy our members with injustice and corruption, and if you do that, you annoy us,” Museveni said.

He was speaking at the closure of the NRM national delegates conference at Kololo Independence grounds on Wednesday.

For the past two months, NRM has been involved in elections for its leaders right from the village level, climaxing with the election of the Central Executive Committee(CEC).

CEC is the topmost decision-making organ of the NRM.

Speaking at the conclusion of the  NRM delegates conference, Museveni said the party is destined for the best with the new leaders.

Museveni, however, warned them against doing things that will annoy Ugandans.

“The 20 million members of NRM want justice, fairness and truth. They don’t want lies, corruption, or favouritism.  That’s why you hear those youths are making noise(about NRM youth elections). Nobody should pollute our NRM with bad behaviour like the use of money and corruption. They must be condemned,” Museveni said.

He noted that there have been cases of corruption reported during the delegates conference, noting that action will be taken against culprits, some of whom he said have already been arrested.

Wealth creation

Museveni asked the new NRM leaders to ensure as many Ugandans as possible join the money economy through wealth creation.

“Emphasise wealth creation to our people. Tell people that you don’t sleep on a tarmac road at night or hospital, or school. That’s why we tell you to understand the importance of wealth. Wealth is the one which is yours as an individual or family, or company.  There are many tarmac roads in Kampala, but the ghetto boys are here. There is tarmac, piped water and electricity, but the ghetto boys are here. Therefore, you as leaders, you must understand the issue of wealth,” Museveni said.

“Every home must have wealth. The government is sending money through PDM. We are sending shs 100 million per parish, and it will be shs500 million in each parish. This is the beginning, but if you do it well,  we can even add more money and say shs200 million per parish to change your lives. Make sure all homes in your area get involved in wealth creation one by one. If there are those not involved, they will wake up slowly.”
