Frank Gashumba Calls For Equality In Marriage

Frank Gashumba has yet again sparked conversation across the country with his unwavering stance on feminist values and marriage equality.

Known for using his platform to speak out in favour of women’s rights, Gashumba continues to challenge traditional norms that he says do not align with mutual respect and responsibility in relationships.

In a recent interview with Sanyuka Television, Gashumba made headlines by publicly stating that he will never allow his wife to kneel before him—a common cultural practice in many Ugandan traditions, often perceived as a symbol of respect and submission.

For Gashumba, however, such acts are unnecessary and outdated.

“I am not interested in someone kneeling before me. Why does my wife have to do so? It’s something I disregard,” he said. “Marriage is about responsibility and respect. That’s the only thing I expect from my wife, and vice versa.”

His remarks come shortly after he was officially introduced by his fiancée, Malaika Mutoni, to her family in a traditional kwanjula ceremony held in Lwemiyaga last month.

The couple’s relationship has since been the subject of public interest, especially among fans who admire Gashumba for his progressive views.

Gashumba emphasised that true partnership in marriage goes beyond cultural symbolism, insisting that both husband and wife must have equal footing within the family unit.

“A wife should have the same stake as her husband in the family. That’s how peace, unity, and development are fostered—not just for us as a couple, but for the good of our children,” he noted.

As he and Malaika prepare for their church wedding, Gashumba continues to use his voice to inspire a shift in societal attitudes towards gender roles and family dynamics.

His call for equality, he says, is not about undermining tradition but about everything.
