Jacqueline Mbabazi, wife of former Prime Minister Amama Mbabazi, made a significant political move as she arrived at the National Resistance Movement (NRM) Electoral Commission offices to submit her nomination papers.

She is seeking to contest in the upcoming NRM primaries for the position of Member of Parliament representing Older Persons in the Western Region.

Dressed in a modest yet dignified attire, Mrs. Mbabazi was received with a warm welcome by party officials and supporters who had gathered at the NRM Secretariat.

Her arrival underscores a growing momentum within the ruling party’s internal political processes, especially as seasoned leaders and new contenders gear up for the 2026 general elections.

A longtime public servant and advocate for women and senior citizens, Jacqueline Mbabazi brings a wealth of experience to the political arena.

Her decision to vie for the Older Persons’ parliamentary seat is seen as a reflection of her continued commitment to social justice, inclusion, and the empowerment of Uganda’s senior citizens — a demographic whose voice she has consistently championed.

Addressing the media shortly after submitting her nomination forms, Mrs. Mbabazi said:
“Older persons are the backbone of our communities. They deserve representation that understands their needs and upholds their dignity. I bring experience, dedication, and a track record of advocacy that I believe can help elevate their issues at the national level.”

If successful in the NRM primaries, Jacqueline Mbabazi will contest in the national elections slated for early 2026, joining a growing list of notable Ugandan women seeking to shape policy and governance from within Parliament.

Her candidacy not only adds to the political vibrancy of the Western Region but also raises the stakes in the primaries, given her political lineage and public profile.

The NRM Electoral Commission is expected to conclude the nomination process for party flag bearers later this week, with competitive races anticipated across several regions and constituencies.
