Bebe Cool has officially launched the international leg of his much-anticipated Break the Chains album tour, starting in Nairobi, Kenya. The tour marks a powerful return to his roots and a celebration of both his musical evolution and East African unity.
Since the release of Break the Chains on May 30th, Bebe Cool has faced scrutiny particularly regarding the decision to promote an international album primarily in Uganda. However, today’s event in Nairobi signals a major shift in his promotional strategy and sets the tone for his broader East African tour.
This is Bebe Cool’s second major stop following a successful listening party and several high-profile activations that have turned the album into the talk of Kampala. The press conference at Aspire Centre in Nairobi attracted music lovers, media, and some of East Africa’s most iconic artists for an unforgettable moment of reflection, reunion, and celebration.
Speaking at the event, Bebe Cool expressed deep gratitude for Nairobi, where his musical journey began under the pioneering Kenyan label Ogopa Deejays.
“Nairobi will always be a second home for me,” he said. “This is where my journey truly took flight, so it means everything to launch this new chapter of my story here. Break the Chains is about freedom artistic freedom, emotional healing, and breaking through personal and professional limitations.”
The 16-track album is a genre-blending project, fusing Afrobeats, Afropop, Afrotech, and Afro-house, all anchored in Bebe Cool’s distinct vocal signature and compelling storytelling.
The album includes notable collaborations, such as:
- African Love with Nigerian superstar Yemi Alade,
- Cheque with fast-rising Ugandan sensation Joshua Baraka,
- Games with UK-based Kenyan DJ and producer DJ Edu.
Since the album’s release, tracks like African Love, Circumference, Motivation, and Cheque have become some of the most streamed songs in Kenya.
In a surprise moment that electrified the room, Bebe Cool was joined on stage by Nazizi and Wyre his former collaborators in the legendary East African Bashment Crew. The trio’s reunion reignited memories of early 2000s pan-African hits such as Africa Unite and Fire Anthem, offering a powerful reminder of the crew’s enduring impact on East African music.
Bebe Cool emphasized that Break the Chains is both a return to form and a bold step forward rooted in authenticity, sonic innovation, and African pride.
He also teased upcoming stops in Uganda, Tanzania, and Rwanda, giving fans and media more opportunities to engage with the music and message of Break the Chains.
The Nairobi event was hosted by renowned Kenyan PR guru Anyiko Owoko of Anyiko PR.
