Buikwe South Member of Parliament Dr. Lulume Bayiga has officially joined the People’s Front for Freedom (PFF).

The announcement was made this afternoon at a spirited gathering attended by senior PFF members and supporters.

Bayiga’s decision to part ways with the Democratic Party (DP), where he has been a prominent figure for years, follows a deepening rift with DP president and current Minister of Justice and Constitutional Affairs, Norbert Mao.

Tensions within the party escalated after Bayiga unsuccessfully challenged Mao for the DP presidency—a position Mao has held since 2010.

Speaking to journalists during the event, Dr. Bayiga cited irreconcilable ideological and strategic differences with the current DP leadership as the key reason for his departure.

“I believe the Democratic Party has veered away from its founding principles. The People’s Front for Freedom offers a more genuine and people-centered platform to advance democratic governance and social justice,” he said to enthusiastic applause.

PFF leaders welcomed Bayiga’s move, describing it as a “boost of integrity and experience” to their growing political force.

The party, founded by opposition stalwarts seeking a fresh, uncompromised path toward democratic reforms, has been gaining traction among disillusioned members of traditional opposition parties.
