Buganda Road Chief Magistrate Ronald Kayizzi has this afternoon granted bail to Bobi Wine’s bodyguard, Noah Mitala, popularly known as Noah Mutwe.
Mutwe was released on a cash bail of shs5 million, with each of his sureties bonded at shs50 million non-cash.
Mutwe has spent nearly two months in detention following his arrest on charges of hate speech and incitement alongside ASP Charles Twine.
Speaking to journalists shortly after the court ruling, National Unity Platform (NUP) Secretary General David Lewis Rubongoya welcomed the release but criticized the bail conditions.
“We are very excited that our friend and comrade, Noah Mutwe, has finally been granted bail after spending close to two months behind bars,” Rubongoya said. “However, we are disappointed by the UGX 5 million bail amount — that’s a lot of money for an ordinary Ugandan.”
Rubongoya also expressed concern over the delays in the bail process, saying, “It’s unfortunate that it has taken this long for him to be released on bail. Justice delayed is justice denied.”
