A scandal is brewing in Bushenyi-Ishaka Municipality as reports emerge pinning Rev Naume Nyeihora, the Division Registrar, in a clandestine meeting with controversial businessman and political godfather Haji Hassan Basajabalaba and 27 village registrars from Nyakabirizi, allegedly to tamper with voter registers and rig the upcoming elections.

The covert meeting is said to have taken place at Kampala International University (KIU), Bushenyi Campus, where sources say the group was spotted manipulating village registers — with a mission to disorganize and disable the support base of Marvin Baryaruha, a popular candidate gaining serious ground in the municipality.

In a shocking twist, Rev Naume has reportedly handed over all 27 village register copies to Haji Basajabalaba, who now plans to use the data to buy off voters listed in those registers and force support for his incompetent son. This development has caused public uproar, with voters and civil society demanding immediate investigations.

According to insider reports, Nyeihora and Basajabalaba are not only tampering with documents but are also bribing Marvin’s coordinators and polling agents in a desperate bid to turn the tide in their favor. “They’re moving stealthily, offering money and false promises to agents to either betray Marvin or abandon their duties altogether,” said a whistleblower who attended the meeting but asked to remain anonymous for safety reasons.

The scandal has sparked outrage among voters and civil society watchdogs, who are now demanding the Electoral Commission to urgently intervene. Haji Hassan Basajabalaba has long been accused of election malpractice, and this latest development adds fuel to the fire.

“This is not the first time Basajabalaba is being mentioned in rigging scandals. He believes he can buy the will of the people with money and influence,” said one angry resident from Nyakabirizi.

Efforts to get a comment from Rev Nyeihora and Basajabalaba were unsuccessful by press time. However, Marvin’s campaign team says they are aware of the plot and are tightening security around their agents and polling stations.

As the 2025 elections approach, Daily Media will continue to expose every attempt to undermine democracy in Uganda.
