The Electoral Commission (EC) has dismissed social media reports claiming that Lira City East MP Jimmy Akena and Oyam South MP Betty Amongi were missing from the national voters register.
EC spokesperson Julius Mucunguzi said on Wednesday that the two legislators are duly registered and eligible to vote in the locations they chose.
“The Electoral Commission has seen and heard social media reports alleging and claiming that Jimmy Akena and Betty Amongi are missing on the national voters register. To the contrary, both are on the national voters register in the places and locations they elected and chose to vote from,” Mucunguzi stated.
He further noted that evidence confirming their registration status had been reviewed and shared with the concerned parties.
“The public should note that both Jimmy Akena and Betty Amongi are indeed on the national voters register. Therefore, social media reports that are claiming the contrary are not correct,” he emphasised.
The clarification comes amid heightened political activity as the country prepares for the 2026 general elections.
