Afrigo Band Singer and Founder, Moses Matovu, is celebrating his 76th birthday. The legendary musician says he is excited to have lived this long.
According to his profile, Matovu was born on 19th June, 1949 in Kawempe Division, Kampala to Mr Abdallah Bukenya and Mrs Solome Nakitto.
He studied at Namirembe Primary School before joining Kibuli Secondary School and Pillai’s Secondary School, where he received both his UCE and UACE certificates.
His education was cut short in 1966 when traditional institutions were abolished. He was on a scholarship from the Buganda Kingdom.

With no opportunity to continue in school, Matovu concentrated on football and later joined the music industry as a vocalist and saxophone player for the Thunderbirds Band
After that, he joined the Police Band in 1968 and later the Cranes Band in 1969 before starting the Afrigo Band in 1975 with eight other members who have since passed away.
They started playing music as a small group of musicians at small parties and at different clubs in Kampala, and later started recording original music and released numerous albums as a group
This year, the band will be celebrating 50 years of existence with a mega concert that will take place on 12th August, 2025, in Kampala.
