Bugangaizi East NRM flagbearer, Onesmus Twinamatsiko, has been remanded to Kibale Prison after allegedly slapping Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja during the party’s primaries.
The incident reportedly occurred on July 17, 2025, shortly after the announcement of the Bugangaizi East constituency NRM primary results, when confusion and tension erupted at the party offices in Kakumiro District.
Twinamatsiko, a former journalist, was arrested on Wednesday and appeared before Chief Magistrate Nazifah Namayanja at Kibaale Chief Magistrate’s Court, where he was charged with assault and causing bodily harm. He denied the charges.
Magistrate Namayanja ordered his remand following allegations that Twinamasiko punched the Prime Minister in full view of party supporters and security personnel.
Twinamatsiko was denied bail and will remain in custody until September 10, 2025, when his bail application hearing is scheduled.
Witnesses say the flagbearer lost his temper amid the chaotic announcement of results, leading to the altercation with Prime Minister Nabbanja.
The incident has sparked widespread attention, raising concerns over security and decorum during party primaries.
