A grim sense of shock has settled over the Lugonjo-Nakiwogo community following the brutal murder of an elderly couple on Sunday night.
The victims, whose identities are being withheld pending official confirmation, had recently returned to Uganda after spending three decades living in Switzerland.
According to police sources, the couple had been back in the country for only a few months and had settled in the lakeside suburb of Lugonjo-Nakiwogo, where they were reportedly building a retirement home.
Their return had been seen as a homecoming by some of the neighbours, many of whom expressed disbelief at the violent turn of events.
On Monday morning, residents woke up to police cordoning off the couple’s residence as crime scene investigators combed through the property.
Early reports suggest there were signs of forced entry and a violent struggle inside the home.
Entebbe Police have since confirmed the arrest of two casual labourers who had been working at the couple’s property.
The suspects are being held to assist with investigations, although no formal charges have been filed at the time of reporting.
